7th birthday party checklist: planning a Filipino 7th birthday
Updated October 2026
In many Filipino families the 7th birthday is the big one of childhood — often closer to a small debut than a kiddie party, with a theme, a host, a programme and a lot of relatives. The work is mostly in the guest count and the programme. Here is an order that keeps it manageable.
3 to 4 months before
- Set the budget, and decide roughly how many kids and how many adults — they eat, sit and cost differently.
- Pick the theme with your child. It decides the cake, the styling, the invitations and the costume, so settle it before booking anyone.
- Book the venue: a party place, a restaurant function room, a clubhouse or your home. Ask what is included — tables, chairs, sound, a host.
2 to 3 months before
- Book the caterer or confirm the restaurant package, against your adult and kid counts.
- Book the entertainment if you want it: a host or clown, a magician, a mascot, games.
- Order the cake and any themed desserts.
- Book a photographer, or ask a relative you trust to cover it.
The programme
A simple running order keeps an afternoon of excited kids on track. A common flow:
- Guests arrive — food stations or snacks while everyone settles
- Opening prayer and welcome
- Games and entertainment
- Meal
- Messages from parents, ninongs and ninangs
- Cake, blowing of candles and the birthday song
- Loot bags at the door as families leave
4 to 6 weeks before
- Send the invitations with a reply-by date. Ask each family how many kids and adults are coming — not just “yes”.
- Order loot bags and giveaways against the kid count, plus a few spares.
- Send the venue and each supplier the programme with call times.
The last week
- Follow up the families who have not replied, then give the caterer the final count.
- Pack a party kit: candles, lighter, cake knife, tape, extension cord, wet wipes.
- Assign one adult to welcome guests and one to keep the programme moving, so you can be with your child.
